“This trio brings together three of the most gifted young improvisers on the current scene.”
Pete Churchill (Royal Academy of Music)
2022 awardees of the Help Musicians Record/Release fund, ‘Aspyrian’ are a London-based trio blending jazz with an array of folk music traditions from different corners of the world. Influenced also by an eclectic mix of soulful songwriters and alternative bands, the result is an ensemble sound that is captivating and truly unique. The group features:
Robin Porter – Saxophones
Jack Gillen – Guitar
Matt Parkinson – Drums
As a collaborative ensemble, all members contribute ideas to the writing/rehearsal process - the compositions that take shape serve as a vehicle for expansive improvisations. Sometimes loud and brash, other times introspective and delicate, the group are in constant dialogue as the music evolves.
Since the easing of restrictions, ‘Aspyrian’ have been busy performing to a growing fanbase. Highlights include a sold-out show at the EFG London Jazz Festival in November 2022, and performances at numerous other venues in London including ‘Good Evening’ (The Royal Albert and Cable Café), MAP Studio Café and Hampstead Jazz Club.
