Rev Simpkins by Candlelight at St Peters Chapel *

By special permission, Rev Simpkins performs at the Saxon Chapel of St-Peter-on-the-Wall, Bradwell-on-Sea, built by Saint Cedd in 654AD.

This venue has no electricity and so this fully-acoustic concert will take place by daylight and then candlelight as the sun sets.

With a band featuring double bass, French horn, banjo and a-cappella singing, the Rev will perform a set of folk-gospel songs about the salt marsh wildernesses of Essex taken from his acclaimed new album, Saltings.

This is a unique opportunity to hear music sung at this remarkable and ancient building in its beautiful and isolated setting above the Saltings themselves.

‘a triumph…hypnotic and compulsive listening’ Fatea on Saltings

‘tender...magnificent...outstanding’ Vive le Rock on Saltings

PLEASE NOTE: This gig takes place at the Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall, East End Road, Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, CM0 7PN and not at Colchester Arts Centre.

Once in Bradwell, please continue straight along East End Road until you reach the car park in front of you. The car park is a level, 5 minute walk from the chapel through beautiful fields. As the Chapel is in a very remote location and has no electricity no running water, toilets will be available at St Thomas’s Church in Bradwell (5 minutes drive away) before and after the concert. For those with impaired mobility, please contact us a few days in advance to arrange to park nearer to the chapel.
