COFFIN SHAKER featuring Wallowing, A'Bear, Zetra & Meemo Comma

Colchester Arts Centre presents…

COFFIN SHAKER: A Halloween Gathering!

WALLOWING
Misery and disgust from worlds unknown… "Rabid and feral, Wallowing's brand of sci-fi themed blackened sludge/grindcore/noise wastes no time. Utilising a single, 32 minute piece of music split between six sub-tracks, 'Planet Loss' covers such issues as the current political climate, the effects it has on the planet and its inhabitants; racism, homophobia and discrimination as a whole (being born into a failing system, and mental illness. Wallowing provide a self-aware perspective, all carefully crafted within an epic story of a small rebellion fighting its last battle against a ruling oppressive regime only to result in the end of civilisation due to both parties own ignorance. Providing an immersive soundscape, 'Planet Loss' is self-described by Wallowing as “if crusties wrote 2112.”

A’BEAR
A'Bear is a multi-continental avant synth electronic producer and DJ making cosmic inspired piqued out pop layered through with messed up frenetic beats. South African born, Australian raised, and London grown, Janine A’Bear’s music production and live performances encourage inclusivity and feminist utopia on the dance floor. Described by Resident Advisor as ‘wonderfully unhinged’, A’bear combines psychedelic polyrhythms with distorted bass lines and warped vocals. Trained in gong meditation A'Bear explores her deep connection with the chaos of sound leaving her unique imprint across diverse activities including: her regular radio show TweaK on Bristol’s Noods and guest spots on Netil, New Rivers, NTS and Red Light radio; hypnotic live analogue synth club sets; and transcendental track releases on labels including Elestial Sound (USA) and Система (RU). A ‘rainbow-rap electronicist’ (Misfit City) with a natural affinity for twisted rhythms, wonky vocal loops and synth grooves, A’bear strives to make meaningful, joyful and impactful new dance tunes delivered across the UK and European club scenes.

ZETRA
Genre-bending duo ZETRA have blossomed into a vessel for intricate storytelling by way of fuzzed-out guitars and majestic melody. Many hours of heavy metal exploration in their formative years has resulted in a solid and eclectic foundation upon which they have layered shimmering synths and ethereal shoegaze elements. The results are a unique amalgam of introspection and euphoric sonic elevation. Entirely self-recorded, ZETRA have crafted a sound that relies heavily on an Atari ST and an 8 track tape machine, capturing each natural crackle and every organic buzz. Tapping into the lo-fi vibes of first wave Scandanavian black metal they have kept their recordings deliberately raw, but added a gossamer sheen that tempers the rough edges. By using obsolete equipment, the duo have by virtue of their own self-imposed limitations created something that sounds distinct. Unafraid to mix influences and inspirations, traces of Black Sabbath and Type O Negative make for comfortable audio bedfellows alongside Gary Numan and My Bloody Valentine.

MEEMO COMMA
Meemo Comma is the alias of Brighton born Lara Rix-Martin who previously recorded as part of the Heterotic duo on Planet Mu. They started the Objects Limited label that features under represented genders in 2016 and has since gone one to produce three albums of their own, including the 2021 anime soundtrack and Jewish folklore inspired "Neon Genesis: Soul into Matter.
