Edinburgh Previews: Jigsaw (Dan Antopolski's Sketch Group) + Roisin Conaty

29th July 2011

Our Friday night’s Edinburgh Preview sees Roisin Conaty and bionic trio Jigsaw taking to our stage for an essential evening’s entertainment that will showcase the work they will later bring to The Fringe this year.

Dan Antopolski, Tom Craine and Nat Luurtsema combine their considerable talent to form the sketch-group Jigsaw. Since winning the BBC New Comedy Award Dan Antopolski has quickly built himself a reputation for being one of the most inventive, intelligent, edgy and unusual comics to emerge in years, being nominated for Perrier awards and causing critics and audiences alike to note his quick-witted mind and talent for the surreal. He teams up with Tom Craine who, since winning Best Comedy & Drama at the BBC National Student Awards 2006 (hosted by BBC Radio 1), has already had his own radio comedy commissioned for BBC Radio 2, penned laughs for BBC 3 and presented items for BBC Radio 1 & BBC 6 Music. However, he's still most proud of being named Wales' 33rd sexiest man, despite hailing from Bath. The final piece of the Jigsaw is Nat Luurtesma who in 2008 was a Chortle Best Newcomer Nominee and appeared as part of the Comedy Zone at the Edinburgh Festival – the Fringe’s longest running and most prestigious showcase. Broadcast voted her one of their ‘Hotshot Writers’, while the London Paper featured her as one of the ‘Top 30 under 30’ talents to watch. The Guardian calls her "Disgustingly talented."

Roisin Conaty won the prestigious 2010 Edinburgh Best Newcomer Comedy Award for her show 'Hero, Warrior, Fireman, Liar'. She is only one of 5 women in the last 30 years to receive the award. Her hugely likeable self-flagellating style is interspersed with genuinely affecting remarks such as an individual having 150,000 online “followers” and yet still eating alone. She has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, performed alongside Victoria Wood, Jo Brand, David Walliams, Andi Osho, Issy Suttie and Katy Brand, plus has written and performed on The Milk Run for BBC Radio 1.

Doors open 8pm, show starts 8.30pm.
