Created to mark the two-hundredth anniversary of John Constable’s most famous painting, The Hay Wain is a modern fable of times past. It is a window into a bygone age, but unlike the enduring image itself, it shows us what lies beneath the idyllic brush strokes. Bringing to life the people that populate the painting, lives defined not by simplicity and virtue, but by hardship, hope and resilience.
The Hay Wain follows the sell-out run of The Gift, which took place in 2019. It takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Granary Garden, Flatford. This is an open-air production so bring picnics, chairs and jackets. The production will only be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather. Tickets are limited each night.
