“The highest level of musicianship you could possibly get together in one band,” said none other than Jamie Cullum about Andrew McCormack’s Graviton, a formidable prog-jazz group that draws on the pianist's wide range of influences, demonstrating his talents for composition as well as his captivating performances.
Pianist/composer Andrew first came to prominence in the new Millennium as a member of the game-changing Tomorrow's Warriors and, later, with reeds players Jason Yarde and Shabaka Hutchings.
Andrew debuted his formidable prog-jazz group, Graviton, in 2017, along with an eponymous album, and while the music evades clear category, the internationally acclaimed pianist and composer consistently challenges himself to explore new and very different musical styles as an artist.
Graviton's latest album, The Calling, has received widespread acclaim, including this from the respected Guardian/Jazzwise critic, John Fordham: ". . . this is contemporary jazz fuelled from the dance floor - but jazz is crucially and unmistakably alive and well in it nonetheless."
Whether appearing with Kyle Eastwood or Jamie Cullum, with a symphony orchestra or as a solo pianist, at outdoor festivals or an intimate club, you can always expect the highest level of performance from Andrew.
Featuring the stellar line-up of Noemi Nuti, Josh Arcoleo, Tom Herbert and Josh Blackmore, between them these musicians have worked and recorded with a diverse range of artists, including Tomorrow’s Warriors, Pete Churchill's London Vocal Project, British Samba Band Rhythms of the City, Pee Wee Ellis, Snowpoet, Fred Wesley, Ginger Baker, Jamie Cullum, Troyka, Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear.
