Emily Francis Trio

Following their debut at the club in 2018, the Emily Francis Trio make a long-overdue return as part of their UK tour to promote the highly anticipated release of their second album, LUMA.

Comprising Emily on piano/keys (here last November with Jo Harman), groovesome bassist Trevor Boxall and the propulsive prowess of Jamie 'Drumcat' Murray, the trio cite an eclectic mix of musical influences. These span late 60s/70s electronic jazz, to progressive rock and pop, Scandinavian jazz and artists from the current New York scene.

Early collective artistic influences were Herbie Hancock, Kenny Garrett, Steely Dan and Brad Mehldau, but now include jazz fusion group FORQ, eclectic four-piece Kneebody, saxophonist and former Steps Ahead member Donny McCaslin, and Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen.

Formed in 2014, EFT is one of the hottest young acts on the UK jazz scene. Their debut album, 2015's The Absent, established their fresh take on the piano trio format, creating original jazz with a strong emphasis on melody and groove, resulting in compositionally rich, original music.

In 2016, EFT released a video EP project, New Town, with funding from Arts Council England, and this was followed in late 2019/early 2020, with two video singles, Escape From The Echo Chamber and Broken Kingdom Part 1.

Emily considers LUMA to be EFT's most accomplished release thus far, taking their music to dizzying new heights, by creating a sonic palette that encompasses so much more than their core line-up of keyboard, bass and drums.

In between gigs, Emily is principal keyboard lecturer at BIMM London.

TREVOR BOXALL

Trevor has a wealth of experience, ranging from performing with pop and rock acts, as well as being much in demand for session work. He applies a strong sense of groove, support and melody to his playing.

JAMIE MURRAY

Jamie is one of the UK's new wave of exciting young drummers currently making a name for themselves and is very much in demand as a sideman. A forward-thinking and conceptual player with a solid groove style, his performances are always fresh and exhilarating.

As well as fronting his own groups, Beat Replacement and JZ Replacement, Jamie has played with most of his contemporaries and peers on the London jazz scene, as well as crossing into the electronic pop world, playing and recording with members of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Knoel Scott and Cecil Brooks.

Emily Francis (Piano/Keyboards), Trevor Boxall (Electric Bass), Jamie Murray (Drums).

“I really love this track and it’s great to hear the wurlitzer taking centre stage” (Escape From The Echo Chamber) Deb Grant, BBC Radio 6 Music

“Doesn’t that just take you to the stars and back? Loving it, loving it!” (The Kite & The Crow) Jay Phelps, JazzFM

“With this album Francis transcends her many influences to create a sound that is very much her own, skilfully blending acoustic and electric elements to create a rich tapestry of sound.” Ian Mann, The Jazz Mann
