". . . impeccable, whether playing acoustic guitar or finding variety in a whole range of subtle effects,” wrote London Jazz about Chris Allard, while The Guardian said this of pianist John Turville: “Mining as deep a seam of musical ideas as Brad Mehldau.”

CHRIS ALLARD

Described by the legendary Pat Martino as “a real guitar player”, and by Jamie Cullum as "one of the great guitarists in this country", Chris cites Pat Metheny, Radiohead and Miles Davis among his influences, and while firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, his group encompasses elements of rock, World, classical, blues and folk.

A former member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Chris has worked with a vast and varied number of artists - from Jacqui Dankworth, Gwyneth Herbert, Dame Cleo Laine, Sir John Dankworth, Carleen Anderson, Claire Martin and Jamie Cullum, to Madeline Bell, Il Divo, Lea Salonga, Gwilym Simcock, the BBC Big Band and Ken Peplowski.

A musician whose playing is both lyrical and understated, Chris will be performing material from his soon-to-be released follow-up to Invisible Landscape, plus compositions from his previous albums - all of which garnered a plethora of plaudits in Jazzwise, Musician and Guitarist - and Charlie will making his contribution too!

JOHN TURVILLE

John has recorded five albums as a leader, all of which have won multiple gongs, including Mojo’s No 3 Jazz Album of the Year in 2012, Best Album in the 2011 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Best Instrumentalist in the inaugural 2010 London Jazz Awards and the 2009 PRS Promoter’s Choice Award.

John’s most recent release, 2019’s Head First, received four and five star reviews. A nod to one of his piano heroes, the great American pianist and composer Fred Hirsch, the album also pays homage to some of his other key inspirations, notably the late, great British pianist and composer John Taylor (his mentor), and Bill Evans.

After studies at Caius College, Cambridge, and the Guildhall School of Music, John rapidly became established as a performer and in-demand sideman on the European jazz scene, playing clubs and festivals with artists as diverse as Tim Garland, Gilad Atzmon, Matt Ridley, Transtango, El Ultimo Tango, and the London Tango Orchestra.

Chris Allard (Guitar), John Turville (Piano), Dave Whitford (Double Bass), Nick Smalley (Drums).

"Allard dodges any jazz-bluesy rock clichés on his electric solo with a bold, rounded sound and patiently-shaped sense of melodic direction." - Jazzwise

"Rocking with bluesy angular lines . . . somewhere between Scofield and Carlton, with a dash of fleet-footing Martino . . .  bebop is far from being Allard’s only brush." - Guitarist on Invisible Landscape

“One of the leading jazz pianists of his generation.” - The JazzMann “World-class, exquisite and constantly inventive.” - Jazz Journal
