Heritage Tour X: Led by Sir Bob Russell, High Steward of Colchester*

Enjoy an entertaining and fact-filled walk around the country's oldest recorded town, in the company of Sir Bob Russell.

All Tours start at 10am on Sunday, except the New Years Day Walk.

The walks start at Colchester Arts Centre and finish at Colchester Castle.

Each walk lasts approximately two hours.

The Heritage Tours are on the first Sunday in the month for January, February and March; fortnightly April to September; and then monthly again on the first Sunday in the month for October, November and December.

There are three separate Tours – A, B and X. Tours A & B focus on the town centre, tour X is “A Roam Around Roman Colchester” with its main feature being walking the entire length of the Roman Circus. Once you’ve tried one you’ll be back for the others we’re sure!

"The routes will embrace ancient and modern" says Sir Bob, who is also a former Mayor of Colchester as well as being the Town's MP for 18 years until 2015. He was appointed to the honorary position of High Steward in the autumn of that year.

A donation of £5 per person is requested. Tickets sales from these walks go towards raising funds for a statue of sisters Jane and Ann Taylor – prolific writers of poems for “infant minds” with one by Jane, written in Colchester in 1806, known throughout the world as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. Sir Bob is also willing to do tours for groups and "specials" for individuals on other days of the week - minimum donation request of £25. Please contact the Colchester Arts Centre Box Office to arrange.

Pre-booking is essential as are sensible walking shoes and an emergency brolly!
