Following on from "Illuminating Alice" and "Speaking Out and Fitting In!" gender fluid Performance Artist Alice d'Lumiere returns to her spiritual home of Colchester Arts Centre for her eagerly anticipated, much delayed and possibly highly ill advised show about her eccentric attempts to lean to sing Opera!

At Tête à Tête The Opera Festival 2021 Alice staged a "Spoken Word Overture"; a 15 minute piece in which she challenged herself to overcome her deep, childhood inability to sing. Two years later this self-confessed outsider in gender and 51 year old late-starter in opera, will reveal if she's now able to hold a note. Themes of vocal identity, gender and the individual's need for creative self-expression are humorously explored by a beguiling communicator who's still not sure if they're a baritone or a contralto.

Join us for the Colchester Premiere; combining prose, verse, comedy, a dash of performance art and yes, perhaps this time some actual singing! Contains original music and possibly some foolhardy attempts at the classical repertoire.

"The world of Classical Music seems terrifyingly stratified to me; Soprano, Contralto, Tenor, Bass; your place in the system and the roles you must play are defined by the limits of your vocal physiology. Yet perversely, in the apparently hidebound universe of Opera, gender seems curiously bendy at times..." Alice d'Lumiere
