A walking performance for an audience of one.

What does your town look like from someone else's perspective? How intimate can you be with someone you've just met?

Walking:Holding invites you to walk hand in hand with a series of very different local strangers around nearby streets, parks and alleyways. It is a participatory performance for one audience member at a time, offering a gentle meditation on identity, touch and intimacy in urban public space.

Walking:Holding was first created in Glasgow in 2011 and has since toured extensively across the UK and internationally, working with local participants as performers in each location. A film about the project is being created this summer with support from the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.

"Everyone acknowledged the astute provocation in Cade's seemingly simple concept, with its flesh and blood challenge to prejudices, and it's honouring of individuals and their differences." The Herald

Walking: Holding has taken place in many cities including; Glasgow, Brighton Birmingham, Sheffield, Ipswich, Cork, Dublin, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Zurich and Amsterdam.

Part of SPILL National Platform 2012, and SPILL Showcase 2013.

Rosana Cade is a performance maker based in Glasgow. Whilst the form of her performance work varies, and emerges in relation to the specific process or context she is engaging with, it is firmly rooted in a queer discourse and straddles live art and activism. Rosana’s performances happen in various contexts including theatres, public spaces, as well as club and cabaret settings.

Rosana was part of the SPILL National Showcase in 2013, a National Theatre of Scotland ‘Auteur’ in 2014, an Artsadmin artist bursary recipient 2014/15, and artist-in-residence with Pink Fringe at the Marlborough Theatre in summer 2015. Her work has been shown extensively across the UK with over twenty organisations including the National Theatre in London, Summerhall as part of the Made in Scotland Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014, Contact Theatre in Manchester, the Arches in Glasgow, Forest Fringe, Battersea Arts Centre, and at international venues including Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon, Frascati in Amsterdam, Gessnerallee in Zurich, and Kwai Fong Theatre in Hong Kong. In 2015 she completed a successful Arts Council funded tour of ‘Sister’ to theatres across the UK and to Finland. ‘Sister’ is a performance devised with Rosana’s older sister exploring feminism and sexuality, which was nominated for a Total Theatre award at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Rosana is also co-founder of BUZZCUT, a collaboration between two friends and artists in Glasgow, dedicated to supporting experimental performance practice in Scotland. They have hosted four annual five-day international festivals of live art in Govan, Glasgow.
