Doctor Zeemans Catastrophe Machine

Tilt presents Doctor Zeeman’s Catastrophe Machine, written and performed by Martin Figura.

Is there a mathematical equation for love and the behaviour of a beating heart? When our windshield is blurred with rain and we’re wearing our reading glasses, can we learn to look in the rear-view mirror and smile?

Doctor Zeeman’s Catastrophe Machine, is the new stage production from award-winning poet Martin Figura. His previous show, Whistle, telling the story of his childhood following his mother’s death at the hand of his father, was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award.

Figura tells the story of his adulthood using sound, images, poetry and a mathematical machine to journey through marriage guidance, a father/son road trip and his Down’s Syndrome daughter’s leaving home for college. With projections, machinery and sound by Andre Barreau, Karen Hall and Paul Finlay. Direction by Hannah Jane Walker, produced by Tilt and funded by Arts Council England, with support by Norwich Arts Centre and Writers’ Centre Norwich. Poetic storytelling with searing honesty, wit and fun.

Age guidance: 14+. Show running time: 1 hour approx.
