Tony Woods Project

This is the rescheduled date.

Tickets for the previous date of 22nd September are valid for this new one. Alternatively refunds are available from the Box Office. We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience caused.

Formed in the mid-90s, the Tony Woods Project has recorded four highly acclaimed albums of original, folk/jazz-inspired compositions: High Seas (1997), Lowlands (2004), Wind Shadows (2009) and Hidden Fires (2017), the latter release garnering several four-star reviews.

While happily shifting gear between jigs and reels, free funk, Balkan dances and ambient electronics, Tony's folk roots are immediately obvious in his compositions, while the jazz connections - plus influences spanning, Latin, African, rock and groove - play their part too, but always with an emphasis on lyrical melody.

The latter comes courtesy of Rob Millett’s glowing, Gary Burton-esque vibraphone sound, Mike Outram’s superlative, angular chord work, Andy Hamill's rock-steady bass and Milo Fell's percussive prowess.

Apart from fronting his own group projects, Tony has also worked as a session musician in many of London’s top studios, including Abbey Road and Maida Vale, and has frequently performed with Michael Garrick, often with his wife, singer Nette Robinson.

The other band members have an impressive pedigree, having worked with, among others, Herbie Mann, Martin Taylor, Cinematic Orchestra, Asaf Sirkis, John Etheridge, Gwyneth Herbert, Mark Murphy, Annie Ross, Salena Jones and Jim Mullen.

Tony Woods (Reeds), Mike Outram (Guitar), Robert Millett (Vibes), Andy Hamill (Bass), Milo Fell (Drums).

"Definitely jazz for the 21st century." - Jazz Journal

“Woods’ writing is colourful, imaginative and inventive, and the way in which he brings his various influences together to create a seamless whole is frequently masterful.” - The JazzMann on Hidden Fires ****

“European sensibility and American grooves united.” - Jazz UK

"The whole band, and Tony Woods in particular, should be justifiably proud of the quality of Hidden Fires. Their obvious assurance was plain to see, while Woods' compositions and arrangements are both hugely enjoyable and extremely impressive." - London Jazz News

"Combines a jazz edge with the melodic zest of folk... delightful.” - BBC Radio 3

"I found it difficult to pick a favourite track, but the first track and last track topped and tailed the album well, and all of this album merits much repeat playing." - Sandy Brown Jazz on Hidden Fires.
