Kim Cypher's Brighter Tomorrow

This gig is for a seated audience.

“A bright, passionate performing light on the UK Jazz scene” Jazz in Europe
“Hats off to a true heart and soul performer” Pee Wee Ellis

Recently described as “musical champagne” by a highly respected jazz club, one of the UK’s most exciting saxophonists, vocalists and composers, Kim Cypher heads to Colchester Arts Centre with her quintet featuring top UK jazz musicians:

Kim Cypher – Tenor, Alto, Soprano Saxophones & Vocals
Chris Cobbson – Guitar
Anders Olinder – Keys
Mike Green – Double Bass
Mike Cypher – Drums

Kim Cypher is creating quite a stir on the jazz scene at present, being a regular performer at top venues on the London and UK jazz circuit with sell-out shows across the country including the main stage at world-renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. With Top-10 rated albums and award-winning music videos, Kim has firmly secured a reputation for quality, stylish, accessible jazz together with a vivacious stage presence and a performance full of warmth, energy, style and charisma.

Recently described by The Jazz Mann as: “appealing to jazz ‘newbies’ and hardcore aficionados alike. Fronted by the vivacious Kim Cypher, the band’s music embraces a broad variety of jazz styles, combining good music and good humour and exploring a wide range of musical territory, yet always within a jazz framework. The standard of the playing and singing is excellent.”

Inspired by the funkier side of jazz and having studied alongside US saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis and internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard, Kim’s style of performance is best described as ‘funky saxophonist meets 1940’s jazz singer’. Her all-round skills as a saxophonist, vocalist, composer and band leader with a natural ability to connect with all audiences, set Kim apart as a unique ‘full package’ for the very best in jazz performance.

Performing as part of Kim’s ‘Brighter Tomorrow’ project, paying tribute to all who work in The Arts as we head towards a brighter tomorrow, the band will perform a great selection of Kim’s original music as part of the project together with some well-known jazz favourites, swing, Latin and funky grooves. It’s sure to be a performance full of positive, vibrant energy, great humour, enthusiasm and wonderful musicianship.
