Feathered Thorns + Yes Today

Feathered Thorns + Yes Today

13th April 2023

The Feathered Thorns are Polly Wright and Jason Wick, who are based in the Waveney Valley on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. They are frequent collaborators on a diverse range of commissioned work for theatre, poetry, dance, film and installation.

Lyrical spoken word and vulnerable melodic vocals duet, over broken chord parlour piano, valve driven guitar amplifiers on the verge of break up, spring reverbs and analogue effects to produce an authentic raw tonal palette over a haunting collage of lo- fi soundscapes conjuring lonely houses, folkloric figures, frozen marshlands and desolate country lanes. Melancholy, tenderness and menace meet the real or imagined, the ache of the familiar and the brooding thrill of the unknown. These are songs deeply rooted in the belly of the Waveney Valley, the area which John Peel famously described as the ‘Badlands of the Norfolk-Suffolk border.’

YES TODAY
Formed in 2022, Yes Today is the project of Southend-on-Sea based singer/songwriter Amy Glover. Yes Today’s music is nestled somewhere between psych folk and country melancholy, with hints of post-punk experimentalism. Along with Amy, Yes Today’s members include fellow Southenders, Amy McKenny on violin and vox, Claire Keech on clarinet and vox, and Roy Thirwall on bass guitar.

"Yes Today were totally ace. Sound like they could have been on Rough Trade in 1980, they recall the stripped down primitive brilliance of The Raincoats and Young Marble Giants - yeah, it's that promising. Can't wait to see them again, highly recommend."
