Antigen Records Party with Dingus Khan + John Callaghan + Earth Mother F*cker + Polly Preacher

21st February 2020

A label showcase from our friends across the border in Ipswich Antigen Records. A bewildering array of genius from across the genres...

DINGUS KHAN
Dingus Khan are sweaty, swan-bothering border folk from the Stour, who play the kind of inbred, Neanderthal indie rock that could only evolve in the cultural isolation of Britain's undisputed smallest town – Manningtree in Essex.

JOHN CALLAGHAN
John Callaghan is an unusual songwriter / performer of thoughtful and spiky electronica from Birmingham (UK). His self-directed video for “I’m Not Comfortable Inside My Mind” aired on MTV. His live performances are energetic and imaginative, and range from one-man Auto-Karaoke shows to specially written dancefloor sets. Recent well-received shows have included London’s Spitz, Ginglik and Electrowerks, Cambridge’s Portland Arms, Crystal Palace Bowl and last year’s jaunt around Germany, including Berlin’s Club 103 and Bar 25 and Hamburg’s Golden Pudel. He is 173cm tall, weights 73kg and has a blood pressure of 110/60Hg.

EARTH MOTHER F*CKER
The word ‘seminal’ has been used a stock cliché by rock journalists since the early 70s to describe many obscure, but influential artists. But never has that claim been more exaggerated than with Anglo-American noise rock malcontents, Earth Mother F*cker. Active between 1988 and 2004 without troubling the charts or achieving any degree of critical appreciation, EMF failed even to profit from confusion arising between themselves and their younger, more attractive and much more popular namesakes.

POLLY PREACHER
Polly Preacher is wonky folk troubadour Ashleagh Hurren. Singer of wistful, idiosyncratic sings imbued with otherworldly innocence and subliminal menace. “Bewitching electric folk that marries hooky melodies to a rich, atmospheric undercurrent” - Folk East.
